Overview of International/Global Studies

International/Global Studies is the perfect program for those who are interested in history, and how the world has changed and continues to change.  International/Global Studies programs are often separate from International Business programs, so although you will study global economy, you will also delve into the social and political ties between many countries.  Global issues often affect us in the United States as well, so knowing how we relate to different countries, and how they maintain their governments and countries is very important.

Job Opportunities in International/Global Studies

For those who want to pursue a career in International/Global Studies, a possible career would to become an interpreter and/or translator.  Among those working as interpreters and translators, about 26 percent of them are employed by professional, scientific, and technical services, and about 23 percent of translators and interpreters are self-employed.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, interpreters and translators held roughly 58,400 jobs in 20010.  Employment for the 2010-20 decade is expected to increase by 42 percent!  You can expect the most employment in urban areas, such as New York and Washington D.C., but job prospects will vary by language and specialty.  Pay varies among industries, but the average annual wage for interpreters and translators in May 2010 was $43,400.
