How to Transfer Credits Internationally

I want to get credit in the U.S. and Canada for my previous education in a different country. I have three years of pharmacy studies; who do I contact to get credit for this?

There are actually three different groups you could appeal to, depending on the situation.

For jobs that don't require government licensing, you could appeal directly to potential employers. This would entail highlighting your pharmacy degree or educational experience on your resume, along with the educational institution at which it was earned, and explaining in your cover letter what this education is equivalent to in the U.S. and Canada. Based on the employer's experience and what they can discern from interviewing you, it would be up to them whether or not they accept this credential.

If you do not yet have a pharmacy degree but are hoping to get credit in the U.S. or Canada, then you need to appeal to the school you plan to attend. The decision about what previous credits to recognize is based on several factors and will vary by school. Try to present specific information about the curriculum you pursued in your previous studies.

Finally, if you want to use your prior studies to meet licensing requirements, you have to appeal to the relevant state or provincial agency. You might try to get your previous education certified by the state department of education, or ask the relevant regulatory agency for your profession to waive their normal educational prerequisites in light of equivalent training you received in another country.
